Rad Things To Do

Rad Things (to) Do - October 2024

Austin Nettleton

There’s just nothing quite like October. The chill air of the Colorado fall, the aspen trees glowing in yellow, orange and red colors, and nearly every professional sport is in full swing to some extent. Of course, there is always a bit of fear in the air… or just the anxiety of watching the Broncos retake the field, not knowing if, and to quote Dallas Cowboys fans, “It is our year.”

October tends to be one of the most eventful months of the year, so check out all the fun events, sports and concerts across the Denver metro area, which are steps away from RTD stops and stations! Grab your tickets and check out October’s Rad Things (to) Do!

Remember to check out the new Concert Finder in the Plan a Trip app to get straight to your show!

NOTE: Light rail service has resumed in the Downtown Loop. D, H and L line trains now operate through the Central Business District and are no longer being detoured to Union Station. Please be sure to check your trips before heading out.

Festivals, parades and special events

Oct. 5: 30th Anniversary of Light Rail Party

RTD is celebrating thirty years of light rail in downtown Denver! Join the RTD team and Board of Directors for a day full of family fun. In addition to speeches, attendees can play games, dance, and see light rail maintenance equipment up close. Food and drink will be available for purchase from local food truck vendors.

Oct. 5-6: Cider Days

There is nothing quite like a crisp apple cider to welcome in the fall season. Cider lovers can head down to Belmar Park in Lakewood for Cider Days, an annual fall celebration. The family-friendly event features live music, fun activities, tasty treats and, of course, as much apple cider as one can chug down.

Catch the routes 11, 14 and 76 to South Wadsworth Boulevard and West Ohio Avenue and enjoy the best of fall, right in the heart of Lakewood!

Oct. 10-12: Great American Beer Festival

Calling all beer lovers! The Great American Beer Festival returns to the Colorado Convention Center Oct. 10-12. Breweries from all 50 states descend into downtown Denver for a two-day showcase of the best craft beer in America! This isn’t just a festival – it’s a competition. Breweries enter their beers to be judged by the festival’s panel of professional judges, of which only the best of the best will be awarded as best-in-class.

Get tickets today at https://www.greatamericanbeerfestival.com and catch the D, H and L lines to Theatre District•Convention Center Station.

Oct. 16-31: Hamilton

One of the most iconic and beloved musicals ever arrives in Denver this month. Hamilton follows the story of Alexander Hamilton and his fight to shape the course of the early years of the United States. The 11-time Tony Award-winning musical is one not to be missed. Get tickets today at denvercenter.org/tickets-events/hamilton/.

The Buell Theatre can be accessed by the D, H and L lines at Theatre District•Convention Center Station.

Oct. 19: Broadway Halloween Parade

The creepiest parade in the Mile High City marches down Broadway on Oct. 19! The Broadway Halloween Parade encourages attendees to dress up in their scariest costumes as unique floats head down Broadway for a night of chills, frills and thrills.

Take the D, E and H lines to Alameda Station, where the parade route is just a short walk away.

Oct. 19: Denver Zombie Crawl

BREAKING NEWS: Hordes of undead are expected to gather at Larimer Square on Oct. 19 in what experts are saying could be the most significant zombie outbreak in the history of mankind.

While it won’t be The Walking Dead-levels of terror, zombie fans across the metro are encouraged to zombify themselves and head downtown for the annual Denver Zombie Crawl!

Catch the Free MallRide to 15th and Larimer streets and get ready to limp and crawl through downtown Denver, welcoming a new Dawn of the Dead.

Sports

Since April, dozens of zombie sightings have been reported at the corner of 20th and Blake streets. After further investigation, it turns out it was just the Colorado Rockies playing baseball. Thankfully, the horror show at Coors Field has officially wrapped up for another season, but could a new one be on the way at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium?

As Denverites hold their breath on a Broncos turnaround, they can relish that both the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche hit the court and ice at Ball Arena to kick off their regular season campaigns. Trying to rebound from early playoff exits, both the Nuggets and Avalanche are hoping to get off to a hot start for the chance to make yet another deep run in the 2025 playoffs.

Speaking of hockey, the Avs aren’t the only team hitting the ice this month. The University of Denver Pioneers hope to return to the Frozen Four and defend their crown from last season’s national championship.

In Boulder, the University of Colorado Buffaloes hope to turn heads as they continue conference play against Kansas State and Cincinnati at Folsom Field this month.
