Rad Things To Do

Rad Things (to) Do - November 2024

Austin Nettleton

The air’s getting crispy, the leaves are putting on a color show worthy of the big screen, and nighttime is creeping in early enough to make the evening rush hour feel like bedtime. Football, basketball and hockey are in full swing, and Colorado’s mountain resorts are finally firing up the snow guns to collective cheers across the state. That’s right—November is here, rolling in with more events than a calendar can handle! So, grab a plate and get ready to savor a Thanksgiving feast of all the Rad Things (to) Do around Denver and Boulder this month—no stretchy pants required ... yet.

Festivals, parades and events

Nov. 5: Election Day

Voting is the most important thing American citizens can do. On Nov. 5, RTD services will not require fares, making getting to and from the voting centers one less thing to worry about. To find out how to get to your nearest voting center or ballot drop box, go to the Trip Planner and click the “Vote” icon.

Learn more about Zero Fare to Vote by clicking here.

Nov. 9: Denver Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a day of gratitude and remembrance for those who served in the United States military. Honor America’s veterans by heading to City Park Nov. 9 for the Denver Veterans Day celebration. Participate in 5K and 10K races, don a rucksack and run in the 10K Rippetoe Rucksack Challenge, enjoy a parade, and check out the festival grounds, where vendors and nonprofits will be in attendance to provide information, resources and more.

Many routes stop at locations around City Park, so visit the Trip Planner to find the best way to the event.

Nov. 9-17: Denver Fashion Week

The state’s largest fashion show takes over the RiNo Art District from Nov. 9 to 17. Denver Fashion Week offers fashionistas the chance to admire the latest trends in high fashion. Local designers will showcase their designs, while aspiring designers can participate in workshops to help hone their skills.

Head over to RiNo by taking the A Line to 38th•Blake Station.

Nov. 15: Eldora Mountain Resort’s opening day

The snow has finally arrived, bringing with it temperatures cold enough for Eldora’s snowmaking crews to get the snow guns blasting at full strength. That can only mean one thing: Eldora’s opening day is just around the corner. Now is the time to bust the skis and snowboards out of the closet and get them dialed in.

Eldora opens for the 2024-2025 winter season Nov. 15. Catch the Route NB from Downtown Boulder Station to arrive in style.

Nov. 22-Dec. 23: Denver Christkindlmarket

November marks the return of Denver’s famous Christkindlmarket, a holiday season staple in the 303. Christkindlmarket brings a taste of Europe to Denver, with holiday-themed music, vendors, food and drinks to welcome in the holidays.

Christkindlmarket takes place in Civic Center Park every Friday to Monday beginning Nov. 22. Simply catch any Civic Center Station-bound bus to enjoy Denver’s marquee holiday celebration.

Nov. 29: Grand Illumination

Many worldwide will debate when the holiday season truly starts. Still, for those who live in Denver, there is no question that the holidays officially begin once Union Station lights up in all its festive glory. Grab the whole family and catch any Union Station-bound bus or train to the Grand Illumination on the day after Thanksgiving to see Denver light up for the holidays. This year’s event will feature a performance by the Denver Dolls, face painting, balloon and caricature artists, holiday-themed food and drinks for kids and adults, and even a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus!

Sports

What a time to be a Denver sports fan. The Denver Broncos are playing some of their best football this decade. The Nuggets are back to their traditional winning ways on the hardwood. The Colorado Rapids are in the MLS Playoffs. Coach Prime got the Colorado Buffaloes into the rankings for the first time since early in the 2023 season while having them bowl-eligible for the first since 2020. It comes at a steep cost, as the Colorado Avalanche are having a very rough start to the season due to an epidemic of injuries. Can the Avs turn it around in November?
