Northbound speed restrictions lifted between Southmoor and Colorado stations
E and H line trains have resumed normal speeds northbound between the three stations along the Southeast Corridor
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) has lifted all northbound light rail speed restrictions between Southmoor and Colorado stations, and E and H line trains have resumed normal speeds along this segment of the Southeast Corridor. The 10 mile-per-hour speed restrictions were first implemented in early June and remained in place until necessary maintenance work could be completed. Over the last week, approximately six miles of rail defect mitigation efforts were completed in Slow Zone #1, which includes Colorado, Yale, and Southmoor stations.
Remaining speed restrictions will continue to be lifted as track repair work is completed. RTD’s speed restrictions webpage is regularly updated with maintenance information and is available at www.rtd-denver.com/light-rail-speed-restrictions.
In May 2024, RTD began a planned inspection of light rail track along Interstate 25 to identify preventative issues that may need to be addressed. As the agency discovered defects along the rail alignment, and depending on their severity, RTD implemented speed restrictions until crews could complete necessary repairs or perform maintenance work. More information about RTD’s enhanced light rail inspection process is available at www.rtd-denver.com/light-rail-speed-restrictions.
RTD appreciates its customers’ patience during the temporary impact to light rail services. Customers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra time to reach their destinations. To assist customers impacted by the speed restrictions, RTD provides a number of resources and support options.
- Service Alerts – text, email, and online notices that provide real-time information on delays, detours, disruptions, cancellations, and the resumption of service
- Customer Care – customers are encouraged to call Customer Care at 303.299.6000 for help planning trips, making connections, or navigating service disruptions

All of RTD’s assets are regularly monitored and inspected to ensure they support operationally safe, accessible, and dependable services. Inspections are a critical component of effective rail management, contributing to the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of RTD’s rail system. The agency’s rail network remains safe for RTD to continue running trains. If, at any time, the track is not safe for operations, light rail services would immediately cease.
