RTD to resume full service on W Line Sunday with additional safety measures in place

RTD will restore full service on the W Line with the start of revenue service at 3:32 a.m., Sunday. W Line service was impacted when the first car of a light rail train derailed on March 11 at the Jefferson County Government Center•Golden Station.

Restoring full service to the affected station required repair of an electrical pole foundation, replacement of the damaged support pole and adjustment of the overhead electrical system that provides power to the light rail vehicles.

RTD has been collaborating with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) as part of the safety certification process in alignment with the federally required Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).

RTD has identified safety measures and corrective actions that will be immediately implemented to prevent a similar incident in the future. Pursuant to Public Utilities Commission guidelines, the incident was fully investigated, and the agency has outlined a plan to implement and monitor the adoption of the identified corrective measures. RTD remains fully committed to operating and providing a safe transit system.

Test trains have been operating through the W Line segment between Red Rocks College and Jefferson County Government Center•Golden stations in preparation of opening the station.
