RailService Disruption

Downtown Rail 15th Street intersection work at Stout and California streets to begin July 15

Tara Broghammer

Rail replacement work on the first segment of RTD's Downtown Rail Reconstruction project at the Broadway/Welton/19th Street intersection was completed on July 3, six days ahead of schedule.

Construction on the next segment of the project begins on Monday, July 15, as crews move to 15th Street at Stout and California streets. The work is expected to take approximately three weeks.

Traffic Impacts & Detour Information

  • The closure will occur simultaneously at the intersections of 15th and Stout streets and 15th and California streets
  • 15th Street will be closed in two locations: Between California Street and the alley directly to the east, and between Stout Street and the alley directly to the west
  • One lane will be closed on 15th Street between Stout and California streets for construction access between the intersections
  • Sidewalks and crosswalks will be closed on the east side of California Street and the west side of Stout Street
  • Alley, parking lot, loading dock and parking structure access will remain open
  • All business access will remain open.

Train Service Impacts

  • All D and H Line trains are currently rerouted to Denver Union Station
  • L Line service is suspended, and Bus Route 34 will serve as an alternative for access from 30th/Downing Station to the Downtown Loop.

Beginning Monday, July 15, and extending until fall, RTD’s Free MallRide service will only run between Union Station and Champa Street. Customers planning to travel to and from Civic Center are encouraged to use the Free Metroride.

RTD has temporarily reinstated the Free MetroRide to expand transit across downtown Denver with all-day, fare-free service along 18th and 19th streets, seven days a week.

Bus Route 0L will also provide all-day connections seven days a week between I-25/Broadway and Civic Center stations.

More information about service changes is available here.

In late July, the closure at 16th and Stout streets unrelated to the Downtown Rail Replacement project, will reopen through traffic on Stout Street from 14th to 18th streets.

Upon completion of the work at 15th Street, crews will move to the 17th/California and 17th/Stout intersections to complete work for Phase 1 of the Downtown Rail Reconstruction Project.

Visit the Downtown Rail Replacement project website for more information.

All construction activities are schedule and weather-dependent and subject to change.
