Commander Brian Cousineau
Brian Cousineau has lived and served in the Denver Metro area for over 27 years; working as a sworn law enforcement officer for over 26 years. Brian began his diverse career with the Englewood Police Department in January 1997, working in the Patrol Bureau. Brian has served has a DUI Instructor and was twice recognized through the MADD organization as one of the top DUI officers in the State of Colorado. Brian has worked in the Investigations Bureau, as an Undercover Narcotics Agent assigned to the South Metro Drug Task Force and later as a Sergeant, supervising a team of Detectives. Brian has also served as a Sergeant in the Professional Standards Bureau, and he has experience as an SRO and as an Administrative Sergeant. He also served as a member of the Englewood Tactical Team-Negotiator, Peer Support Team, and as an FTO.
Brian has received numerous awards and commendations for his service to the Community of Englewood. Most notably, the Police Service Award for negotiating a suicidal person off the ledge of a building. The Meritorious Service Award while working a barricaded male who exchanged gunfire with officers, seriously wounding one officer. In addition, the Distinguished Service Award while leading a team of Detectives as they investigated one of the largest child pornography cases in the State of Colorado.
Prior to his career in law enforcement, Brian proudly served in the U.S. Army as an Infantry soldier, having served in Operation Desert Shield/Storm.
Brian has earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership. Brian is a consummate learner, having completed numerous professional development classes such as Leadership in Police Organizations, the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy courses, University of Denver Public Safety Leadership Development Program, and he is a graduate of the 386th Session of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
Brian came to RTD-Transit Police in June 2023, with the desire to invest in this growing organization and assist in building the next generation of officers and leaders.Brian is a member of FBI-LEEDA and the CACP.
Brian enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, and golfing and his favorite quote is a line from The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
