Stop Requested – Northglenn•112th Station: Access to Fun and Good Food

Austin Nettleton

We’re starting to move again. Places are reopening their doors, and we’re slowly navigating our way back to the way things used to be. We’re looking for new places to eat, new places to recreate and new places to safely connect with each other (at a distance, of course). So grab your phone, purchase a ticket, hop on a bus and/or train, and explore the best that our metro area has to offer. This is Stop Requested!

It’s only fitting that our first Stop Requested entry highlights the newest addition to the RTD family – the N Line. Let’s hop on and head north on the new line to Northglenn•112th Station.

Northglenn•112th Station sits one stop away from the end –of the line, nestled in the suburbs of Thornton and Northglenn. While the station itself sits alone, it is within walking distance to a massive park and some great food. Swing by The Salvere Hitch art installation by Jeff Best before leaving the station.

Carpenter Park is about a mile walk from the station and is home to many great outdoor activities. The park has a plethora of different areas for all types of sports, such as lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, bocce ball courts, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard and sand volleyball courts for you to get your game on. Be sure to grab your skateboard on the way out the door and check out the skatepark, complete with bowl, street and vert features for all skill levels. There are also a number of fields and trails for you to get your exercise in. Bringing the kids along? The park features a large playground complete with slides, swing sets, jungle gyms and more. If you time it right, you might catch a performance at the amphitheater, too! Unfortunately, some of the park’s more unique features are closed due to the pandemic, but during a normal season, you can swing by the boathouse and rent two-person paddleboats, catch a ride on the carousel with the kiddos and let the kids cool off at the sprayground.

Located at the park is the Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center. The rec center is loaded with all sorts of fitness equipment for you to get your sweat on. There are also an indoor walking/running track, racquetball courts, basketball courts and fitness classes. The rec center features an indoor aquatics area that is currently undergoing renovation, but is tentatively scheduled to reopen in 2021.

After working (or playing) up an appetite, swing by Anthony’s II Pizza and Italian Food across 112th Avenue, just north of Carpenter Park, and chow down on some pizza, pasta and oven-baked subs. For the grown-ups, swing by The Glenn Bar & Grill at the corner of East 112th Avenue and Irma Drive. The Glenn features absolutely loaded menus for brunch, lunch and dinner, complete with happy hour specials to end the day on a high note. Be sure to try the fried chicken and waffles or the whiskey burger.
It’s easy to make a day out of a trip on the N Line, especially around the Northglenn•112th Station area. Between the many activities at the park and the great restaurants in the area, there’s something for the whole family. Grab that face mask, get your $3 three-hour Local pass and hop on the next northbound N Line train!
