RTD takes action to deter illegal racing at US 36•Sheridan Station

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) will close the top level of the US 36•Sheridan Station parking structure beginning Thursday, Dec. 16, not Westminster Station as previously reported. The closure is to deter recent illegal street racing activities that have occurred at that location. The parking garage is located at 5025 W. 88th Place in Westminster. The closure will remain in place as RTD considers additional courses of action.

The closure of the top level of the four-story parking structure is not expected to impact RTD customers. The 1,000-space garage is not being used to full capacity due to residual impacts brought about by the pandemic.

Emphasizing that safety is paramount to any transit system, RTD General Manager and CEO Debra A. Johnson said, “The closure of the parking structure’s fourth level is to mitigate the unwelcomed and unlawful activity that has plagued Westminster’s residents as well as to ensure the safety of RTD’s customers and community, in addition to those who are participating in this reckless behavior.”

RTD’s transit police division is working in close coordination with local law enforcement to deter these street racing activities on RTD property. Johnson encourages anyone who observes unlawful activity to call RTD Transit Police at 303.299.2911.
