RTD set to take customers to Golden summer spots

Camila Lacerda

RTD invites customers to use public transit to experience the scenic beauties the City of Golden has to offer. As summer approaches, many travelers head to Golden for activities such as tubing, hiking and other explorative nature activities that customers can access by public transit. The town of Golden offers two inflation stations during the summer, from Friday to Sunday, at the ambassador stations located west of the campground and adjacent to the drop-off lot on 10th and Maple streets for customers’ convenience, eliminating the need to bring ready-to-use tubes onboard the bus and train.

Customers can also bring bikes on light rail trains, however, bear in mind only two bikes are allowed at each boarding area and in each bike zone. Details about the bikes on vehicle policy can be found on the RTD website.

The W Line extends from Denver’s Union Station to Jefferson County Government Center, traversing through Denver, Lakewood and Golden. Bus Route 17 and the Golden FlexRide are available in the Golden downtown area where customers can take a ride to Colorado School of Mines, Golden History Center, Golden Branch Jefferson County Public Library, American Mountaineering Center and Clear Creek.

As part of its commitment to making lives better through connections, the agency welcomes youth aged 19 and under, with their ID, to ride at no cost until Aug. 31, 2024, through the Zero Fare for Youth initiative. Additionally, RTD offers discount fares to seniors, individuals with disabilities, Medicare recipients and customers enrolled in the income-based fare program, LiVE.

RTD customers are encouraged to sign up for Service Alerts and plan ahead by visiting the RTD website to view bus and rail schedules. Below are some helpful tips and tools for taking RTD to and from Golden:

  • Visitors of parks and creek are encouraged to be respectful by refraining from littering or leaving any waste behind
  • RTD has a simplified fare purchasing process through its Trip Planner on the Next Ride app, enabling customers to view fares and buy tickets directly within the MyRide App. Users without the application will be directed to download it from the app store to complete their fare purchase when accessing the Trip Planner on Next Ride.
  • Download the Transit Watch app to report any safety or security concerns to RTD Transit Police
  • Respect the ride. To guarantee a pleasant transit experience, it is imperative that all customers follow the RTD Code of Conduct while onboard vehicles and while waiting at stations and stops.
