RTD partners with Denver Public Library, Sage Hospitality to host Silent Pages Society meetup on N Line

Last Friday, snow showers and cooler temperatures did not deter over 200 bookworms from convening for the inaugural Silent Pages Society at Denver Union Station. Hosted by RTD, the Denver Public Library and Sage Hospitality, Silent Pages Society provided library patrons the opportunity to try transit with a round-trip experience on the N Line.

Denver Public Library initially piloted a “silent” book club on the A Line earlier this year. Seventy-five patrons enjoyed their books with a trip to Denver International Airport and back. Social posts from the event went viral, with one video amassing over 45,000 likes. The library contacted RTD to help coordinate another trip.

The registration for Silent Pages Society closed several days after opening, with 450 RSVPs and a waitlist of over 300 individuals. With much excitement around the event, Community Engagement Manager Brandon Figliolino convened a project team comprising various RTD work units. Commuter Rail identified two evening N Line runs that could accommodate a double-married pair of train cars to ensure enough capacity for RTD’s regular customers and library patrons. Transit Police coordinated additional officers and security personnel to assist customers on the platform and aboard the trains. The Community Engagement team assembled 400 welcome kits that included an RTD sticker, an N Line branded bookmark and several RTD brochures. The library also provided patrons with a “passport” to collect stamps at this and future Silent Pages Society events, which the library intends to host at various cultural locations throughout the city over the summer. The next event is June 5 at Cheesman Park.

Despite the inclement weather, the event was successful. Community Engagement is grateful to RTD teammates who assisted with this creative transit activation. Additional large-scale, transit experiences are in development to promote transit use throughout RTD’s 2,345-square-mile service area.
