RTD Civil Rights Mixtape!

Carl Green Jr.

Sponsored by Warm Cookies of the Revolution and Community Organizing for Radical Empathy

RTD recently collaborated with Joie Ha from Community Organizing for Radical Empathy and Evan Weissman from Warm Cookies of the Revolution, an all-star cast of performers/artists, panelists, community members and the RTD Civil Rights Division for this exciting piece of work.

To know where we are going, we have to know where we have been. I’m a firm believer that history, and in the case of civil rights history, it is extremely important to recognize and understand it, most importantly, it serves as an opportunity to pay homage to the pioneers. There is a myriad of individuals before and during the civil rights movement who championed equity, equality and accessibility as well as established the blueprint for present and future voices to follow.

Our history illustrates there was the power of movements that expressed the power of many. Where ordinary people were doing extraordinary things to do the right thing in order to bring about justice, fairness and equal opportunity for all. In fact, these courageous acts led to the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and countless other federal and state laws that protect our civil, political and legal rights in the areas of voting, housing, education, employment and public accommodations such as public transportation.

The RTD Civil Rights division ensures that the agency upholds the civil rights of its employees and customers. Working across agency departments and with diverse community partners, together we proactively pursue fairness, inclusion and equal opportunities in employment and small business development while also striving to provide historically underrepresented communities with equal access to public transit services and programs.

As we know the work continues and we are still marching to make that dream a reality. I can attest the folks who work in the RTD Civil Rights division are up to the task and are some of the most passionate people that I have had the pleasure to work with. We stand with the community and for the community.
