RTD Bus Operations to host career fair Monday through Wednesday

Want to make a difference in your community? RTD is hiring – and welcomes applicants next week to its Platte operating division for a three-day career fair.

RTD’s Bus Operations division is hosting the hiring event, which runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at 3333 Ringsby Court, Denver. Recruiters from RTD’s Human Resources division and division management staff will be on hand to answer questions, show applicants around the facility and provide details about available positions throughout the agency. Applications can be completed and submitted on site.

As of September, RTD is in need of 195 bus operators out of 952 budgeted positions, a vacancy rate of about 20%. The starting hourly wage for bus operators is $24, plus a $4,000 signing bonus. RTD offers part-time bus operator positions, requiring a commitment of at least 15 hours a week, as well as opportunities for overtime.

Within bus maintenance, RTD has 88 openings in bus maintenance out of 365 budgeted positions, a vacancy rate of about 24%. These jobs include general repair mechanics, which start at $30.25 an hour; and body shop technicians, with a starting hourly wage of $27.98. Both positions are also eligible for a $4,000 signing bonus.

Chris Deines, General Superintendent of Transportation, noted that while the agency’s biggest need right now is for bus operators, all applicants are welcome at the event. The fair will allow them to experience the operating division firsthand, he said.

“We are looking for people who want careers,” Deines said. “There are numerous possibilities throughout the agency. Come see what positions we have available that might fit what you’re looking for.”
