Bus shuttles will replace a portion of G Line Oct. 4-5 during track surfacing
DENVER (Sept. 30, 2025) –– The Regional Transportation District (RTD)is set to begin routine track surfacing work along the G Line from Wheat Ridge-Ward Road and Clear Creek-Federal stations.
The planned maintenance will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4-5. During the two-day period, buses will provide service between the affected stations.
Customers can board bus shuttles at the following station locations:
- Wheat Ridge-Ward Road – Gate B
- Arvada Ridge – Gate B
- Olde Town Arvada – Gate A
- 60th & Sheridan-Arvada Gold Strike – Gate A
- Clear Creek-Federal – Gate C
Running multiple trains across the tracks throughout the service day inevitably leads to shifting and settling of the ballast, the rocks under the rail.
To protect trains, tracks and customers, RTD includes regular surfacing as part of its overall maintenance program. Resurfacing corrects rail alignment for a smoother ride and is essential for delivering safe and reliable transit service.
During the surfacing process, a tamper vehicle picks up the rail along with the rail ties, then pushes metal paddles into the ballast to vibrate and compact the ballast under the ties. This brings the track up to a specified height and eliminates dips in the rail. A regulator vehicle follows behind the tamper, distributing the ballast and smoothing out the track bed to bring it to a uniform appearance. In addition to smoothing out any bumps along the alignment, the planned preventive track maintenance is an important way to extend the life of RTD’s rail system. RTD endeavors to be a good steward of its publicly owned infrastructure and keeping the rail in good condition will help it last longer.
G Line service will continue to operate normal service between Union Station and Clear Creek-Federal Station and B Line service will not be impacted by the work. Full rail service on the G Line will resume Monday, Oct. 6.
