RTD to add two temporary speed restrictions on light rail corridors

RTD will place two temporary light rail speed restrictions beginning at 7 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, for a portion of the D Line between Evans and Englewood stations, and along a section of rail that serves the E and H lines between University of Denver and Colorado stations.

The agency continues to make significant progress on its preventative maintenance work along the Southeast Corridor. The current speed restrictions will continue to be lifted as track repair work and preventative maintenance is completed.

Some temporary light rail speed restrictions remain along portions of the D, E, H, and R light rail lines. The 10 mile-per-hour speed restrictions were first implemented along the Southeast Light Rail Corridor in early June. The overall impact to customers will depend on the specific light rail line traveled and length of the slow zone, but in most cases, the temporary restrictions are anticipated to add approximately 15 to 20 additional minutes to trips on the D, E, and H lines.

A maintenance timeline is available on RTD’s website, along with maps, illustrations, photos, video, and frequently asked questions. The speed restrictions webpage will continue to be updated as new information becomes available.

In May 2024, RTD began a more robust program of inspections on the light rail system to identify preventive maintenance issues that may need to be addressed. As areas along the rail alignment are noted as needing work, and depending on the issue, RTD has implemented speed restrictions until crews can complete repairs or perform maintenance work.   • Service Alerts – text, email, and online notices that provide real-time information on delays, detours, disruptions, cancellations, and the resumption of service
  • Impact Team – RTD is dispatching employee ambassadors to various rail stations and bus stops to assist customers with trip planning and to provide information about disruptions and maintenance
  • Customer Care – customers are encouraged to call Customer Care at 303.299.6000 for help planning trips, making connections, or navigating service disruptions
  • Next Ride App– customers can use RTD’s Next Ride app to plan trips and learn about disruptions
  • Social Media –RTD’s digital team is available via social media to provide customized help and assistance
