RTD light rail service impacted by global outage

RTD light rail services have been significantly impacted by a global Microsoft outage that first disrupted early morning commuters. The outage initially impacted several servers used in RTD’s transit operations, including the agency’s Computer-Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location (CAD/AVL) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). Issues related to CAD/AVL have since been resolved, and real-time vehicle information was restored around 8 a.m.

RTD’s SCADA servers continue to be impacted by the outage and are used to support rail operations and communications. Rail Operations is currently running a reduced number of light rail trains across the entire system due to the SCADA impacts. There are no current impacts to commuter rail services on the A, B, G, and N lines.

Staff is closely working with RTD’s vendors to resolve the issue and restore service levels. At this time, RTD expects the disruption to last most of today but does not have an exact estimated time framefor the issue to be fully resolved. The outage has no impact on customer safety.

A systemwide Service Alert has been issued to communicate the current impacts to customers. Members of RTD’s Impact Team have been dispatched across RTD’s service area to assist customers during the disruption.
