September's Operator of the Month is Dambar Shrestha from the Platte Division! Shrestha was chosen for his actions to prevent his bus from running over a customer who attempted to board while the vehicle was moving — and fell under the bus. His quick reaction time and attention to his surroundings allowed him to stop the bus instantly, preventing the rear tires from hitting the individual. Q&A:
How long have you driven for RTD? Have you always been a bus driver?
As of today, I have worked at RTD for 4 years, 7 months, and 23 days. Prior to RTD, I managed a Conoco Gas Station for 9 years. I learned how to drive a bus here at RTD.
What were you in a previous life?
A bus driver! I grew up in Nepal, earned my Master’s Degree in Economics, got married, and have a son. Now I’m a happy bus driver.
What do you like best about your job?
I love the driving part the most.
If you could listen to music while working, what type would you choose?
I don’t usually listen to music when I drive, even in my own car, but when I do, I like to listen to Indian and Nepali music.
If you could deck out your bus, what style would it be?
I like the Flatiron Flyer buses and want all the buses to be blue with a yellow bird along the side.
If you could change your uniform color, what color would you prefer?
I would like to wear a green uniform.
What type of service would you drive if given the choice? What is your favorite service to drive or operate?
I like driving the Free MallRide. I’m waiting until the construction work on the 16th Street Mall is over before I bid on the route.t
