RTD recognizes 61st anniversary of the Civil Rights Act
RTD is celebrating the 61st anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, landmark legislation that not only ended segregation in public spaces but also laid the groundwork for greater equality across American society.
The Civil Rights Act was a defining moment in the advancement of racial justice, making discriminatory practices in public services, including transit, unlawful. RTD remains committed to providing transit service options for all individuals within its district.
A key part of RTD’s efforts to uphold these principles is the 2025-2028 Title VI Program Plan Update, which ensures that transit services are accessible for everyone, including individuals who may face barriers due to race, color, ability or national origin. RTD actively works to improve accessibility and engage customers and stakeholders to ensure transit equity across its service area.
RTD is proud to be an inclusive employer and adheres to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act by investigating employee complaints related to discrimination and harassment based on race, color, religion, sex (including sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression), and national origin through the Equal Employment Opportunity Office (EEO). The agency works to foster a safe and equitable workplace by offering training, enforcing policies, and collaborating with employees, managers, and government agencies to ensure compliance and address concerns promptly.
In keeping with the enduring legacy of the Civil Rights Act, RTD is committed to both Title VI and Title VII, ensuring that fairness and equal access are integrated into transit services. Whether through customer outreach or service offerings RTD works to create an accessible transportation system.
