John Grygorcewicz is a former RTD-Police Sergeant and Michigan native who has lived in and served the Denver Metro area for over 28 years; working as a sworn law enforcement officer for over 27 years. John began his diverse career with Arvada Police Department in January of 1996, working in Patrol and eventually serving in several other capacities. John became the lead advisor for the Police Explorer Post, worked as a field training officer, traffic enforcement officer, and undercover narcotics detective who has served as an expert witness in narcotics trials. While serving in Arvada, he was awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service for intelligent police work in a domestic abuse call that evolved into a kidnapping.
In June 2014, John accepted a lateral position in the City and County of Denver Police Department where he worked as a Patrol Officer, District 6 Impact Team officer, and Taser Instructor before being promoted to Corporal where he trained new officers and served as a street supervisor. In December 2021, John retired from the Denver Police Department and accepted a position in the RTD Transit Police Department as a Sergeant. While working in RTD-PD he has been the K9 Supervisor, Patrol Supervisor and Lead Supervisor for the Bus Impact Team. John has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice among other academic credentials. He demonstrates leadership through his strong commitment to community-driven, problem-oriented, community-based policing concepts and his investment in training the next generation of officers.
John’s own diverse yearning for professional development led him to complete the FBI Leadership classes while also getting an Accident Reconstruction Investigation certification. He is qualified to teach at any POST Colorado Academy and gained thousands of hours of undercover narcotics experience while he worked with the West Metro Drug Task Force. As his career evolved, he became an undercover officer, and was an integral part in interrupting major drug operations using Title VII wire investigations and earned cross designation as a US DEA Agent to lead multi state drug trafficking teams.
