MyRide Smart Card

What is MyRide?

Introducing our new pre-loaded fare card! The smart card technology inside this cool little card deducts your fare each time you ride. You simply tap the card on a smart card validator to pay your fare and off you go. You don't have to worry about carrying cash or asking for transfers.

Load, Tap & Go!

  • Load up to $200 cash! When your balance gets low, simply reload value online, in person at select King Soopers and Safeway stores, or at an RTD Sales Outlet.
  • Tap your card to pay your fare and save up to $0.25 off the cash fare each time you tap
  • Go online to manage your account. You can order more cards, add value, view transaction history, and more!

MyRide is valid on all regular bus, Call-n-Ride, SkyRide, and rail services. It is not valid on Access-a-Ride, and RTD special services routes, including but not limited to BroncosRide, RockiesRide, RunRide and SeniorRide. Another form of fare payment is required to ride these services. Monthly and Day Passes are not yet available with the MyRide program.

Benefits you will love

  • Time: Paperless transfers are now included in your fare, with a three hour transfer window after your first tap.
  • Cost savings: You’ll save $0.25, ($0.15 for discount cards) on every trip by using your MyRide card. View fares.

Register Your Card for Balance Protection

We know that cards sometimes get lost, but don't worry, we've got you covered. Log into your MyRide account and register your card to protect the balance if your card is lost, stolen or damaged. If you purchased your MyRide card online, it is already registered. If you purchased your MyRide card in person you will need to creat your online account and then register the card yourself. With a registered card, your money is safe with us. If it's not registered, you're own your own - the cash value on your lost card is as good as lost cash. If your card is not registered, it is not protected and the remaining balance cannot be transferred to a new card.

Check Your Card Balance

There are several ways to check your card balance:

  • Smart Card Validator - your remaining balance is displayed on the screen when you tap your card to a validator
  • RTD Sales Outlet - visit an RTD Sales Outlet and a customer service representative can let you know the balance on your card
  • Online - view your card balance online in the card details or transaction history of your online account. Please note it may take 24-48 hours for most recent transactions to be availably in the system.
  • Call Customer Care - call our Customer Care Center at 303.299.6000 and a customer care representative can look up your remaining balance with your card number

Easy Online Account Management

We've made it easy to manage your MyRide card online. Once you create an account and register your card, you will have full access to all the benefits offered through our online account management website, including:

  • purchase additional cards
  • reload cash value
  • view transaction history
  • check balance
  • and more!

MyRide Frequently Asked Questions

General MyRide Questions

The MyRide card is a reusable plastic card the size of a credit card that contains a chip for passengers to load and store cash value to electronically pay fares on bus and rail. Just tap the card on the smart card validator while boarding a bus or prior to boarding rail to pay your fare.
Stored cash value is a pay-per-use feature that allows you to load money onto your MyRide card and pay for your ride each time you board bus and rail. You can load any amount up to a maximum card balance of $200. The available cash value stored on your MyRide card is decreased to pay your fare when you tap your card at a validator.
Cash value is the only product available at this time. No other fare products may be loaded onto a MyRide card.
The plastic, credit card-sized MyRide card uses radio frequency and smart card technology. The validator communicates with the card to read and update the information it contains. No personal data is stored on the MyRide card itself. This technology is used in transit systems around the world.
MyRide offers a $0.25 discount off of the regular cash fare and a $0.15 discount on the discount cash fare. Proof of eligibility is required to ride with a Discount MyRide Card.

Local: $2.60
Local w/MyRide: $2.35
Local Discount w/MyRide: $1.15

Regional: $4.50
Regional w/MyRide: $4.25

Airport: $9:00
Airport w/MyRide: $8.75
Airport Discount w/MyRide: $4.35

  • Choices: The MyRide card is free and you can load any amount up to a $200 card balance.
  • Savings: You'll save $.25 ($0.15 for discount riders) on fare every time you tap your MyRide smart card.
  • Peace of mind: You no longer have to worry about carrying exact change for your trip.
  • Time: Paperless transfers are included in your fare, with a three hour transfer window after your first tap.
  • Security: RTD offers balance protection if your card is lost, stolen, or damaged.
You can get a MyRide card by creating an online account or purchasing one in person at one of our RTD Sales Outlets.
MyRide is valid on all regular bus, Call-n-Ride, SkyRide, and rail services. It is not valid on Access-a-Ride and RTD Special Service routes, including but not limited to; BroncosRide, BuffRide, RockiesRide, RunRide, and SeniorRide. Another form of fare payment is required to ride these services.
There are two types of MyRide smart cards: Full fare and Discount fare. Discount MyRide card holders must show proof of eligibility to the bus operator when boarding the bus or the rail fare inspector upon request. Discount fares are available for all seniors 65+, individuals with disabilities, Medicare recipients, elementary, middle and high school students ages 6-19. Children 5 years of age or younger ride free with a fare-paying adult. Active duty members of the U.S. military ride for free on all RTD services. Proof of eligibility is required for all passengers using discounted fare products.
Currently, there is no charge for a MyRide card. However, there is a $5.00 minimum purchase requirement the first time you load your card.

Using your MyRide card

You can begin using your MyRide card as soon as you load money onto it.
You do not need to tap your card when exiting a bus or train unless it is a route that normally requires fare payment upon exiting.
Smart card validators are conveniently located at all rail stations. Many stations have more than one validator. Most often, validators are located in high traffic pedestrian areas at the station or next to the rail platform where the train arrives.
Signage is located at all rail stations behind each card validator to help you determine which level of service you should select for your trip.
Transfers are encoded on your card. You must tap the card on a validator when transferring; however no additional fare will be deducted when transferring to the same service level on buses or trains for three hours from the first time you tapped your card. Transfers do not include the reverse direction on the same route. The validator will display the time the transfer expires.
During the 3-hour transfer window, if you transfer to a higher level of service, the difference between the higher fare and the lower fare will be deducted from your card. Example: You board a local bus and $2.35 is deducted from your card. You transfer to a Regional bus with a fare of $4.25. The difference of $1.90 will be deducted from your card.
Yes. If using a discount MyRide card, you must show proof of eligibility each time you tap your card on the validator on bus or upon request by a rail fare inspector.
Prior to tapping your card, the full fare MyRide amount is displayed on the smart card validator. This is the amount that will be deducted from a full fare card upon tapping, unless you are transferring or upgrading to a higher level of service. The discount fare is not displayed. The balance displayed while tapping reflects the balance after the fare was deducted.

No. The MyRide cash value on your card may not be used to purchase other RTD fare products. Similarly, fares paid with your MyRide card may not be used as a credit toward other fare products including monthly passes and day passes.
Tap and hold your card again. If your card does not work as expected, please provide another form of payment and call RTD Customer Care at 303.299.6000 or visit an RTD Sales Outlet for assistance.
If you don't have enough money on your MyRide smart card to pay for the fare you selected, you will need to use another form of fare payment. No partial payments for a fare are allowed.
By default, the validator is set to the highest service level (Local, Regional, or Airport) provided by the route. Tell the driver if you need a lower service level prior to tapping and the driver will downgrade the fare.
  • To upgrade to the correct fare level: select the correct service level (Regional or Airport) and tap your card to the validator again.
  • You will not be able to downgrade your fare after you have paid. Call RTD Customer Care for assistance.

Loading your MyRide Card

You can load/reload your card at one of the five RTD retail outlets. You can also reload value on existing MyRide cards at select Safeway and King Soopers stores. Please note that King Soopers and Safeway stores are not selling MyRide cards; these stores can only reload value on exisitng cards.

Order new cards and load cash value online in just a few easy steps with a debit or credit card. You can load up to a $200 maximum balance on the card. First time card purchases and subsequent reloads online require a $5 minimum load value. You should receive your card within 7-10 business day. Please allow 24-48 hours for the reload to process in our system. Then, tap your card to a validator to load the value onto your card. While not usual, on rare occasions, this process may take up to 72 hours to complete and for cash value to become available on the card for use on bus and rail.

Sales Outlets You can load value up to a maximum card balance of $200 onto your card at an RTD Sales Outlet. Value is available on the card immediately. For first time card purchases, there is a $5 minimum load value required. Subsequent reloads at a Sales Outlet do not require a minimum purchase amount. RTD's Retail Sales Outlets accept cash, check and debit/credit card payments for purchasing and loading stored value on your MyRide Card. With an online account, you can use credit and/or debit cards to load value onto your MyRide card.
You will not be able to load Stored Value on a CollegePass, EcoPass or NecoPass.
Not at this time but this may be a future enhancement to MyRide.
The best way to check your balance is to read the validator screen after you tap your card. The longer you hold your card up to the validator, the longer the screen will display your balance. You can also request your balance at one of our RTD sales outlets or by calling Customer Care. Balances are available immediately at the RTD sales outlets. If calling Customer Care, please allow up to 72 hours for transactions to be updated in our system. You can also check your card balance and transaction history online when you manage your card in your online account.
Not at this time but this may be a future enhancement to MyRide.

Fare Inspection

Rail fare inspectors have devices that will scan your card to determine if the card was validated correctly at a smart card validator. Please present your card to a fare inspector upon request.
You must present your MyRide card to a fare inspector upon request. The fare inspector will scan your card to verify your ride has been validated properly. Other questions about MyRide

No. The electronics within the card are not susceptible to this type of damage.
No. If using your MyRide card, you must pay for the entire one-way trip with your card. Partial payments for a fare are not permitted.
Customer Care can provide assistance related to your recent charges and transactions. Please allow up to 72 hours for transactions to be updated in our system.
Our smart card system uses a technology that requires the buses and rail validators to communicate electronically with our backend systems in order to update card information. This communication occurs when the vehicles pull into the garages or when the rail validator data is transmitted. Most transactions are available within 24-48 hours; however in rare instances, it may take up to 72 hours for the information to be updated.
